If your attic was insulated by an Owens Corning-certified contractor between 2015 and 2023, you likely have pink-labeled sealant tape at the perimeter and possibly foam-sealed top plates.

To identify what you have, look for the pink Owens Corning tape at the attic hatch perimeter and any stamped date codes on foam work near can lights. Here’s what you can safely check yourself: hold your hand near the attic hatch on a hot day, feel for airflow around can lights with the HVAC running, and look for pink tape that’s peeled or foam that’s crumbled. Take photos. That’s useful information.

Here’s where DIY goes wrong. Attic air sealing requires working at height, often near live knob-and-tube wiring that isn’t always obvious under insulation. The foam and sealants that actually work need proper application temperature and thickness, or they off-gas and fail within a season. And without a blower-door test, you’re guessing.
